The Governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyi have been sacked by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
The court agreed that the Form CF 001 Degi-Eremieoyi submitted to INEC for the purpose of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa State contained false information of fundamental nature.
The five-man panel of Justices led by Justice Mary Odili of the Apex court came to a mutual agreement that Degi-Eremieoyi presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).
The November 12, 2019 judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja that disqualified Degi-Eremieoyi from participating in the governorship poll was reinstated by Justice Ejembi Eko who delivered the lead judgement.
Furthermore, INEC has been ordered to immediately withdraw the Certificate of Return which was issued to David Lyon and his Deputy Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyi and issue a fresh Certificate to the party which secured the second highest number if votes.
The Apex court passed the judgement following an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its governorship and deputy governorship candidates in Bayelsa State, Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhruojakpo.
