A MYSTERIOUS VIRUS IS SPREADING IN WUHAN, CENTRAL CHINA, LEAVING SEVEN PEOPLE IN CRITICAL CONDITIONS.

The WHO China Country Office was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown etiology (cause) observed in Wuhan city on the 31st December 2019. A total of 44 patients with pneumonia of unknown etiology has been reported to WHO as of 3rd January 2020 by the national authorities in China. 11 out of the 44 cases reported are severely ill, the remaining 33 patients are in stable condition.

The number of infected people has risen to 59, Wuhan Municipal Health Commission announced on Weibo(China’s version of Twitter), where it disclosed that symptoms developed as early as December 12th. They’ve been admitted to hospitals for close observation, Hong Kong which is a neighboring city announced a total of 44 cases just weeks before the Chinese New Year.

Investigations has linked the outbreak to the Husband Seafood Wholesale Market, where people who visited the market and shop owners complained of fever and shallow breathing, this has lead to the temporarily shut down of the Wholesale Market for sanitation on 1st January.

All affect person(s) have been placed in quarantine, and another 163 people who had been in close contact with the patients have been placed under close medical observation, so far, the Chinese Investigation Team has given a preliminary information stating there’s no evidence of significant human to human transmission and no health care worker has been reported to be infected.

Seasonal Influenza, SARS and MERS has been ruled out by the medical experts in China, diagnostic tests is been carried out to identify the mysterious illness.

A microbiologist at the University of Hong Kong, Yuen Kwok-Yung said; “There are chances that the virus was transmitted from animals to humans, but so far the authorities hasn’t identified the virus, he added that the unknown illness share similarities of the 2003 SARS epidemic, which had killed 813 people in 37 countries”.
