Barcelona put Pique, 3 other senior players for sale
Barcelona is ready to sell at least four players this summer transfer window, according to Mundo Deportivo.
According to the Spanish newspaper it says that the players include Pique, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto and Antoine Griezmann.
Barcelona wants to use the fund realize from the sale of the players to finance a deal for either Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero or Lille’s Memphis Depay this summer,
The Catalan club are in severe economic difficulty due to the COVIDD-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Pigue, Busquets, Roberto and Griezmann have made over 100 La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season.
Perhaps the most surprising player on that list is Griezmann.
The France international has scored 12 goals and registered 7 assists for Barcelona this season.
The forward is only two years into the five-year deal he signed with Barcelona when he joined the club from Atletico Madrid for an astonishing £108 million.
Okala at 70: Sports minister celebrates former Green Eagles goalkeeper
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has described former Green Eagles goalkeeper Emmanuel Okala as one of the greatest goalkeepers Africa ever produced.
According to his statement on Monday in Abuja while congratulating the football legend as he clocked 70. Dare heaped praises on him and thanked him for his services to his fatherland.
“On behalf of the Nigerian football family, let me sincerely congratulate Emmanuel Okala as he turns 70.
He also wish him happiness saying “On this your special day, I wish you God’s guidance, protection, mercy favour and good health, happy birthday,”. He described him as an icon whose place in the history of Nigerian and African football would not be forgotten.
” You are truly an icon whose place in Nigerian and African football is already assured. “Your role in winning the 1980 Nations Cup and other accomplishments cant be forgotten. “We will continue to celebrate you and pray to God to endow you with good health and long life. God bless you and thanks for all the great memories,” he added.
Further more, Okala is the only Nigerian goalkeeper to be decorated as ‘African Footballer of the Year’ by the African Sports Journalists Union (ASJU). He manned the post for the Green Eagles for about 10 years while also plying his trade with Enugu Rangers Intl FC. He was born on May 17, 1951 and played for the Green Eagles from 1972 to 1980, culminating in winning the 1980 African Cup of Nations for Nigeria. (NAN)
El-Rufai govt vs NLC: Northern Governors react to ongoing strike in Kaduna.
The Northern Governors Forum has called for calm and dialogue between Kaduna State Government and organized labour, to resolve the ongoing warning strike by workers in the state.
The Chairman of the forum and Governor of Plateau, Mr Simon Lalong, made the call in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Makut Macham, on Tuesday in Jos.
He said the forum was concerned about the impact of the strike on the state and its residents following the lockdown of economic activities in the state.
However, the chairman noted that dialogue and negotiations were effective tools for addressing disputes in labour relations.
He called for restraint and de-escalation of the situation to enable amicable resolutions.
Lalong pointed out that peaceful resolution was only possible when both parties operate within the law in ventilating their grievances.
The chairman further explained that inciting comments and some actions would further aggravate the situation and increase tension.
Lalong urged the labour leaders to guard against the hijacking of its protests by hoodlums, who may want to take advantage of the situation to cause destruction to lives and properties.
He also tasked security agencies to ensure the enforcement of law and order to protect the people and their properties.
According to the report by the newsmen the Nigeria Labor Congress, on Monday, had declared a five-day warning strike following the sack of workers in the state, allegedly without following due process.
Following the incident, NLC has shut down the power supply in the state, rail and air operations, as well as other commercial activities.
